FC TUCSON YOUTH SCHOLARSHIPS

No player should be denied the opportunity to play because of financial need.

FC Tucson Youth (FCTY) seeks to provide every committed player with an opportunity to participate
in our program. Financial assistance is allocated based on need. We regret that we are only able to
provide financial assistance to the neediest families. Those receiving assistance will see a reduction
in their program fees. A smaller number of very needy applicants will also receive a reduction in
their registration fee. Families are responsible for other miscellaneous team expenses. Scholarship
assistance is awarded for only one playing season (i.e., 2025-2026) at a time. Please read all
instructions carefully before completing your application.

CRITERIA USED FOR SELECTION OF SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS:

• Application forms and financial need based on last year’s tax returns
• Compliance with previous FCTY obligations
• Years of loyalty playing for FCTY, TSA, or TVSC
• The number of children in that family who are in FCTY programs
• If the family is receiving public assistance
• If the family resides within or outside the Tucson Metro Area
• Level of involvement of applicant’s family (parents, siblings) in FCTY
• Attempts made by team to fund the player
• Additional fundraising efforts on the player’s behalf
Note: All applications are evaluated without regard to gender, race, color, ethnicity, religion, sexual
orientation, or disability.

REQUIRED FORMS

1) FCTY Financial Assistance Form **

2) FCTY Income & Employment Form
3) FCTY Player Scholarship Application** (to be completed by player, not parent)
4) 2024 Federal Income Tax Return* and related schedules, for all family
members residing with the applicant and/or all guardians or family members
providing financial support to the applicant. In some cases, additional
documentation (e.g., other tax forms, W-2’s, etc.) may also be required for
FCTY to determine the family’s financial status. It is not necessary to include
Arizona tax returns.
* For families with multiple children in FCTY, only one copy of the Federal Income Tax Return and the
FCTY Income and Employment Form are required.
** Complete a separate FCTY Financial Assistance Form and FCTY Player Scholarship Application for
each player.

CONFIDENTIALITY

All information included on the applications is held in the strictest confidence. Only FCTY
Scholarship Program Coordinator Charlie MacCabe and his support staff will review the applications.

SUBMITTING APPLICATIONS

The application deadline is June 20, 2025.

• Applications may be emailed, mailed, or delivered in person.
• Emailed applications must be submitted as PDF files.
• Do not photograph your application pages and then email them in that format. Do
not attempt to fax applications.
• All mailed applications must be postmarked by June 20, 2025. Applications received after
that date will only be considered if funds remain available in the FCTY Scholarship Fund.
• Any application received after June 20 will have a 20% reduction in the award. **
• Any application received after August 1 will have a 40% reduction in the award.
• Scholarship application forms are available in Spanish.
**Note: Players new to FCTY who join teams after June 20, 2025, will be considered for financial
assistance without penalty if scholarship funds remain available.

SCHOLARSHIP AWARD NOTIFICATION

• All complete applications are processed in a timely fashion. Applicants who submit all their
materials by June 20, 2025, will be notified by email of their award no later than July 15,
2025.
• Families are encouraged to submit applications well before the deadline. Those submitting
applications prior to May 31 should receive any award notification by June 15, 2025.
• These notifications will include a scholarship award letter that must be signed and returned
to Scholarship Program Coordinator Charlie MacCabe (see below). The Club bookkeeper,
team coach, and team treasurer will be notified of the scholarship amount awarded to that
player. Scholarship awards do not go into effect until the signed award letter has been
received by the scholarship coordinator.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF SCHOLARSHIP PLAYERS AND THEIR FAMILIES

• Returning FCTY players must be in good financial standing with FCTY and have demonstrated a consistently high level of commitment, responsibility, and citizenship to their team(s).

• New and returning players must complete ALL the required forms.
• Recipients have specific compliance obligations – SEE BELOW
• Scholarship players are also required to participate in all team fundraisers.
• Families are required to notify the scholarship program coordinator if their financial
situation changes during the playing season in a way that would have an impact on their
scholarship award.
• Failure to meet these obligations will result in the suspension or termination of FCTY
scholarship assistance.

COMPLIANCE OBLIGATIONS

All scholarship players U-17 or below, or their parents/guardians, must assist with the FCTY
Wolfgang Weber FC Tucson Cup Tournament, or some other activity identified by the Director of
Coaching such as helping with the recreational program.
Those families assisting with the Wolfgang Weber FC Tucson Cup Tournament must correspond with
the FCTY Volunteer Coordinator at least 10 days prior to the Tournament so that you can be
assigned your volunteer task.
Field marshal assistance at the Tournament is expected from ALL FCTY families and does NOT
constitute fulfillment of scholarship compliance obligations.
• Scholarship recipients who fail to fulfill their volunteer obligations will have their
scholarship aid immediately suspended. Suspended scholarships may be reinstated with

the 20% penalty by providing some service to FCTY at the discretion of the scholarship
coordinator.

RESPONSIBILITY OF TEAM TREASURER TO MONITOR PAYMENT OF COACHING FEES

It is the responsibility of team treasurers to closely monitor the program payments for all families,
including scholarship recipients. Most scholarship recipients are still required to pay some portion
of their program fees. Head coaches should be notified immediately if any player is more than 30
days behind in their fees. Team treasurers are strongly encouraged to establish regular
communication with the scholarship families on their team. Any issues should be discussed with the
team head coach as soon as they arise.

FC Tucson Youth Soccer Club (FCTY) busca brindar a cada jugador la
oportunidad de participar en nuestro programa de fútbol. La asistencia
financiera se asigna según la necesidad. Lamentamos que solo
podamos proporcionar asistencia financiera a las familias más
necesitadas. Aquellos que reciben asistencia verán una reducción en
sus cuotas de socio. También habrá cuotas de registro reducidas para
aquellos que cumplan con los requisitos. Las familias serán

CONFIDENCIALIDAD

PRESENTACIÓN DE SOLICITUDES

Las solicitudes pueden enviarse por correo electrónico, por correo
o entregarse en persona.
Las solicitudes enviadas por correo electrónico deben
enviarse como archivos PDF.

No fotografíar las páginas de su aplicación y luego envíelos por
correo electrónico en ese formato. No intente enviar
aplicaciones por fax.
Todas las solicitudes enviadas por correo deben estar
mataselladas antes del 20 de junio de 2025. Las solicitudes
recibidas después de esa fecha solo se considerarán si los fondos
permanecen disponibles en el Fondo de Becas de FCTY.

NOTIFICACIÓN DE PREMIO DE BECAS

Todas las solicitudes completas se procesan de manera oportuna.
Los solicitantes que presenten todos sus materiales antes del 20
de junio de 2025 recibirán una notificación por correo electrónico
de su adjudicación a más tardar el 15 de julio de 2025.
Estas notificaciones incluirán una carta de adjudicación de beca
que debe firmarse y devolverse al Coordinador del Programa
de Becas Charlie MacCabe (ver más abajo). Una vez que FCTY
reciba esta carta de aceptación, se notificará al tesorero del club,
al entrenador del equipo y al tesorero del equipo el monto de la
beca otorgada a ese jugador. Las becas no entrarán en vigencia
hasta que el coordinador de la beca haya recibido la carta de
adjudicación firmada.

RESPONSABILIDADES DE LOS JUGADORES DE BECAS Y SUS FAMILIAS

Los jugadores FCTY que regresan deben estar en buen estado
financiero con FCTY y han demostrado un alto nivel constante de
compromiso, responsabilidad y ciudadanía con su (s) equipo (s).
Los jugadores nuevos y antiguos deben completar TODOS los
formularios requeridos.
Los becados tienen obligaciones de cumplimiento
específicas: VEA A CONTINUACIÓN
Los jugadores becados también deben participar en todos los
eventos de recaudación de fondos del equipo.
Se requiere que las familias notifiquen al coordinador del programa
de becas si su situación financiera cambia durante la temporada
de juego de una manera que pueda tener un impacto en su beca.
El incumplimiento de estas obligaciones resultará en la
suspensión o terminación de la asistencia de becas FCTY.

OBLIGACIONES DE CUMPLIMIENTO

Todos los jugadores becarios U-17 o menores o sus padres / tutores
deben ayudar con el Torneo de Wolfgang Weber de FCTY o alguna otra
actividad identificada por el Director de Entrenamiento.
Las familias que asisten al Torneo de Wolfgang Weber deben asistir a
una reunión obligatoria aproximadamente dos semanas antes del
Torneo donde se le asignará su tarea de voluntario.
Se espera asistencia como oficial de campo de juego en el Torneo de
TODAS las familias de FCTY y NO constituye el cumplimiento de las
obligaciones de cumplimiento de la beca.
Los becarios que no cumplan con sus obligaciones de voluntario
tendrán su ayuda de beca suspendida inmediatamente. Las becas
suspendidas se pueden restablecer con la multa del 20% al

proporcionar algún servicio a FCTY a discreción del coordinador de
becas.

RESPONSABILIDAD DEL TESORERO DEL EQUIPO PARA MONITOREAR EL PAGO DE LAS TARIFAS DE ENTRENAMIENTO

Es responsabilidad de los tesoreros del equipo monitorear de cerca el
pago de las tarifas de entrenamiento por parte de todos los jugadores,
incluidos los becarios. La mayoría de los beneficiarios de las becas
todavía deben pagar una parte de su tarifa del club cada mes. Los
entrenadores deben ser notificados de inmediato si algún jugador tiene
más de 30 días de retraso en sus tarifas del club. Se recomienda

The Brett Bassett Scholarship Fund

Brett Bassett Memorial Scholarship

The Brett Bassett Memorial Scholarship offers youth soccer players in Tucson, AZ an opportunity to fund the development of their soccer careers by progressing their skills, passion, and love for the beautiful game. Brett Bassett grew up in Stamford, CT, where he was an avid soccer player and captained his high school team. Long after his playing days, Brett was an enthusiastic soccer parent where he proudly supported his two daughters Kirsten and Kaitlyn Bassett who both trained competitively with Tanque Verde Soccer Club here in Southern AZ. Brett believed that accessibility barriers such as finances should never discourage a player from realizing their full potential. He funded not only his daughters, but several of their team members through his business in the form of subsidizing scholarships which made competitive soccer a more affordable option.

Second Team Player Scholarship

The Bob Coate Scholarship

The Bob Coate Scholarship will be awarded annually to a “second team” player who has demonstrated similar qualities to those listed for the Bassett/Caris Scholarship (see below). “Second team” players are those on any team not competing as an MLS Next or GA team. FCTY coaches can nominate candidates up until September 1, 2025. Player nominations should be sent to the FCTY Scholarship Program Director (charliemacc2@msn.com). A brief statement in support of the nominee should accompany each nomination.

Parent Volunteer Scholarship

The Nina Panipinto Parent Volunteer Award

The Nina Panipinto Parent Volunteer Award will be presented annually to a parent manager, treasurer, or other supporting person who has been with FCTY for at least two years and who has made a significant contribution to their team(s) and the Club. Coach nominations can be sent to the FCTY Scholarship Program Director (charliemacc2@msn.com). The deadline for nominations is September 1, 2025. A brief statement describing the contributions of the nominee should accompany each nomination.
